Male to Female Surgery

Procedure: SRS/GRS/GCS

Overview

This is a 22 year old patient, born male, and had identified as female since a very young age. The patient has been living as female for many years and has been on estrogen therapy. Due to severe gender dysphoria, the patent has been unable to leave the house since graduating high school. The patient is quite anxious, and at times unfortunately suicidal, which worsened when President Trump threatened to take away the few rights transgender people have made over recent years. We performed penectomy, orchiectomy, and feminizing vaginoplasty. Together, these procedures are often referred to as gender reassignment surgery (GRS), sex reassignment surgery (SRS), or gender confirmation surgery (GCS).

Post op: Immediately after completion of surgery. Note the bladder catheter (yellow) which stays in place for 1 week after surgery, and the packing in the neo-vagina.

Results

The patient is now 3 months post op. Though surgery will not cure everything, this patient has made huge strides with depression and anxiety post operatively. She is able to leave the house for the first time without feelings of severe persecution.

Doctors Whitehead and Ramirez are such a blessing to us. They helped me when no one else would due to my severe anxiety and agoraphobia. I give thanks every day that I had this surgery. I finally have hope for the future.
